From Gros Islet you can follow the beach - boasting with fishing huts and simple reggae bars - to Pigeon Island. This spit is covered with the fortifications of Fort Rodney, dating from the 1550s.

In the extreme south you’ll find Soufrière which is a remarkable pleasant town. Here you can see pitons which are cones that rise straight out of the water.
